Swedish Study Shows Decline in Music Piracy

Music streaming is taking a bite out of crime.

Swedish Study Shows Decline in Music Piracy

"Media Vision, a Swedish polling firm, on Thursday released a study suggesting the rising popularity of web-based music streaming services has triggered a substantial decline in music piracy in its home country. According to the results, 23 percent of Swedes now download music illegally, down 25 percent since 2009."

"The study also found that one of the main reasons people switch to legal services (cited by 40 percent of participants) is the widening range of content they can find on services like Spotify, Rdio and Rhapsody. Many others switched because legal services have become cheaper (24 percent) and simpler (24 percent)." - (portfolio)
